Little Owl on the Prairie

The Burrowing Owl is one of the smaller owls and about the size of a Robin. The only owl that nests under ground perhaps hence their name ? They will use prairie dog burrows or man made tunnels/nest sites as is the case in this protected area.
Their distinguishing traits are long legs and big yellow eyes…most often seen next to the borrow or perched on low posts.

Definitely a fun little critter to photograph.
