Sad News in Peregrine World

We have no control what happens in the Bird World…we’ve lost our resident West Wpg male Hart. The cause of death is unclear.
It’s always sad to lose any bird and had become attached to Hart who became one of the favorites.
For years he was always the First Bird back and one of the last to leave each season…he knew all the nest sites and made his rounds each spring in an attempt to secure a site.
Hart was hatched at the Radisson Hotel in 2012
He showed up in Winnipeg two years later (2014) and continued to return each year.
Having 4 different partners with a total of 24 chicks he helped raise.

Spring Must Be in the Air

Excitement is building with the return of the first Peregrines. For those that don’t know…I’ve been involved with the Peregrine Project since 2006. Each year we need to ID the returning birds by confirming the band number. This task can be frustrating at times as the birds do not always cooperate by showing their band…often more than one trip is needed to be able to get a readable photograph of the band.

With the lost of 2 females last season it’s going to be an interesting year to see who is returning and who is hooking up with who.

Now the question remains will Princess the resident female from the Radisson return for another year ?

Confirmed that Hart (Logan male) and Faith (West Wpg female) are back in town…will have to wait and see if they stay together.

Peregrine 2018 Gallery is up and running with more photos to be added through out the season as things progress….You will need to copy and paste the below link.

Now the Fun Begins

Saturday March 11th 2:45 pm.our first bird returned to Winnipeg. Now confirmed that the first bird back was Hart. He’s the resident male from the Logan territory and not where he should be by hanging out at the Radisson.

Sunday, March 19th a second bird (female) think we know who she is but still need to confirm. She is also out of her territory.

Late afternoon another female shows up and it may very well be Joli, ( out of territory ) Hart’s mate from Logan.

It’s not Joli’s first time to visit the Radisson over the years.

Appears it could be an interesting year.

Cheers !
