Snowy on Snow

When out-n-about searching for Snowy Owls…one needs to multitask.
Not only scanning the pole tops ahead as you drive, also the fields…because you just never know.

This male may have recently came of a pole…perhaps he had just finished a meal…perhaps a missed opportunity when I spotted him.
I say him because of the lack of heavy barring that females have…my thinking is a juvenile male and will turn all white in the future.

Never be surprised by what Mother Nature may provide.

Getting Back to Normal

With all the hustle and bustle now in the rear view mirror it’s time to settle down and get back to normal.
New Year’s Day 2024 and it only seemed fitting to see what Mother Nature as to provide to the start of the year.

Prowling the normal back roads was somewhat of a disappointment with not a Snowy to be found…the thought of calling it a day crossed my mind.
Rather than doing that perhaps expanding the search would be productive…going with the gut feeling I plot out a new route.

Turned out to be the right course of action with the First Snowy of 2024 spotted…even though this pole perched owl wasn’t cooperative I did manage to find two of the five willing to smile for the camera.

The last of the day being unique in its own way even though it was perched on a post.
X…marks the spot.

Beacon on a Pole

It’s been an unusual start to the Winter. With mild temps and the lack of snow but I’ve been kicking down the barn door…to get out and search for the Great White Owls from the North.
Finally a day when the weather cooperated and I refused to look at the Job Jar…this found me out roaming the Back Country Roads.

Always a great feeling when you spot that First Beacon on a Pole. Nature being Nature…nothing is a given as the Owl could very well take flight well before I even get close.

Perhaps the Owl simply felt sorry for me…staying perch for a short period before he decided enough was enough and flew off.

The encounter was short lived…but nice still nice to see.
