Catch of the Day

Well it doesn’t get much fresher than this…Mama Osprey returns with a Fresh Catch of the Day.
With three hungry mouths to feed this was more like a mid-morning snack I would say.

Seems to be an abundance of Gold Fish available in nearby ponds this year…almost every visit to this urban nest sight seems to have them on the menu.

All three youngsters are now up and flying and the adults continue to provide meals…this will go on till the young know how to hunt for themselves.

Nice of Mrs. Osprey to show off the Catch of the Day.

Almost Missed It

There are days when out-n-about that provide little to no rewards…maybe this was going to end up being one of those days or not.

Homeward bound after cruising some back roads and was just passing the last farmyard before the highway…something seemed odd about the light post at the driveway as I passed.

Perhaps it would be worth turning around and checking…nice surprise to find a Red-tailed Hawk (juvenile) perched on Mr. Farmers light post.

Almost missed it…thanks Mother Nature for the reward.

Splish Splash

Recently had a visitor in town from Sweden and he was excited to visit Lockport to see Pelicans. Although the numbers were down and believe the majority of the birds to be juveniles. Most sitting on the rocks close to shore…preening seemed to be the excitement to be had.

Of course no trip to Lockport would be complete without stopping at the Half Moon Drive-in for a hotdog.

Watching this Pelican on the Red River instantly made me think of the song Splish Splash by Bobby Darin.

Sorry you may be humming “Splish Splash I was taking a bath” for the rest of the day now.
