Un-banded Peregrine Gets a Name

One of the Peregrine sites has a banded male named Sundance and he’s partnered up with an un-banded female…if she had a band she would have a name.
We’ve dubbed her as Etta and she has a couple of very distinctive markings which may be helpful in the future.
Just how did the name Etta come to be ?
Etta was the wife/partner of The Sundance Kid as in Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid and only made perfect sense.

Urban Osprey Have Now Returned

In recent years it’s been common to see Geese nesting in an Osprey nest…I’ve always wondered about those little goslings taking that first step and how they can survive the fall.

It was a delight to see that the Osprey have now returned to their nest and not have to deal with the Geese.

The site being only minutes away from home and located in a commercial area with easy access…making for quick Osprey fix when time is short.

Ducks at the Pond

Impossible to say just how many ponds we have in the city…but they all attract ducks.
Wood Ducks being a bit different and have sharp claws which enables them to perch in trees.
These ducks nest in tree cavities or nest boxes that have been built and installed around ponds or along the rivers.
The colorful plumage including their bill makes them easy to identify.
