For the most part in these neck of the woods Snowy Owls tend to use any one of the many Hydro poles as a perch. Pleasant surprise to find one in a tree along the roadway at the edge of a farm yard.
Sitting waiting for an extended amount of time for some flight action…but it wasn’t meant to be.
The owl decided to go off in the other direction rather than towards me…never the less a Tree Topper trumps a Pole Percher.

Twice in One Year
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought to be lucky enough to once again come across a Bald Eagle on the ground. If you recall the first trip provided and adult…this time a juvenile.
Rest assured this Eagle appeared to be just fine and it’s still unclear to me just why It came in and landed where it did.
Never the less I took full advantage of what had occurred.
This up-close encounter last mere seconds and all that could be heard was the rapid bursts of the camera shutter…before it departed.
A case of the right place at the right time.
The Love of Peregrines
It goes without saying that I’m a Raptor Guy…big birds and owls have always been my focus. With Peregrines topping the list…the love for these birds began back in 2006 when I became involved with the Manitoba Peregrine Project.
There’s a lot of back-end work that takes place…nest box design, construction, installation, gravel pick-up, road trips, sight checks near and far. Along with yearly clean-up and gravel replacement if necessary.
Bottom line is there is much to be done before there are any photographic rewards.
Why Peregrines…probably because they are endangered and not as commonly seen and photographed as other raptors. The challenge has always been to photograph these birds that fly at Mach Speed.
Over the years I’ve learnt to take the good with the bad…the happy with the sad, as no two days are ever the same.
Each encounter in my books are Special when it comes to Peregrines.
