Hidden Hawk Owl

Hawk Owls are non-migraters and easily found during the Winter months perched on a tree top…around this time of year they will begin to move back into the Boreal Forest.
There they will find a partner and the courting and mating process will begin. Like all owls they do not build their nest…using cavities or may also use hollow tops of broken trees to nest in.

This Hawk Owl’s feeble attempt trying to hide from the Paparazzi…nice try but it didn’t work this time.

On the Prowl…Continued

Each step brought the fox closer…then a sudden leap into the air and head first plunge into the snow.
This is how they go about getting a meal during the winter.
My presence didn’t seem to deter the fox from searching for a meal…with the attempt being successful he/she gobbled down the vole.

Then continued on with the search…it was as if I wasn’t even there.
Truly have to love the opportunities Mother Nature provides me with.

Taking the Good with the Bad

As the Winter winds down there’s no plans for any sort of Snowy Owl trips planned.
This season seemed to be very hit and miss as far as sightings…not being able to count on an owl being in the same location twice.
I have no idea why…some years are just like that.
Bottom line is…you take the Good Years with the Bad Years.
