Eagle on the Wing

One of the 3 Eagles returning to shore after checking out what the commercial fishermen had discarded.
With cloudy skies and showers in the forecast another trip up on Lake Winnipeg may or may not happen.

The day’s now numbered till the commercial fishing season is done…any possibility for another trip will be weather dependent.

You wouldn’t be expecting to find a Great Horned Owl nesting close to a high human traffic location…as was the case in St.Vital Park this past spring/summer. The site was close to the road and a few meters from a well used walkway.
Owls are not nests builders and use nests built by crows or other raptors. The un-used nest in the pine tree provided the perfect location for Mamma Owl to raise their three owlets.

Finally the skies clear after what seems like weeks of overcast and rain.
Trip up North along the shores of Lake Winnipeg for Eagle migration finds that the numbers are definitely down from previous years.
So why the decline ?
I believe it has allot to do with the possibility that the commercial fishermen are now keeping more fish and just not throwing back as many…just my thought.
Never the less just nice to be out-n-about and able to photograph some Eagles…even if they are Tree Toppers.
