Morning visit near the summer place and while driving an unusual loud rattling sound heard in the trees next to the water. It was unclear to me at the time what critter or bird was making the noise until I spotted a Belted Kingfisher.
At first hidden in the bush it soon flew to a more open perch which gave some photo opportunities.
To me the Kingfisher seemed Robin like or a bit larger in size and was hunting the shore line for small fish/minnows.
From my Handy Dandy Bird Book the markings tell me it’s a female and possibly a juvenile as it has Rusty coloring…where the males are white.
Never the less my morning adventure out-n-about was exciting along with an Eagle just down the road past the Kingfisher.
