Early Morning Out-n-About

Early mornings at the summer place begins with brewing a pot of coffee…after having the first cup to clear the cobwebs it’s time to hit the road.
Travel mug of coffee and the morning rounds begin. First interesting encounter being an Bald Eagle on a commonly used perch that overlooks a small bay on Lake Winnipeg.

Most likely perched looking for a morning meal.

Here again using the truck as a blind and my presence didn’t seem to concern him/her.
At this close distance remaining in the truck is the best option rather than getting out.

You know it’s going to be a good day when you get too spend some time with one of these Majestic Birds.

The Days are Numbered

The time for Peregrine Chick Banding is drawing near…up until now there has been no contact with humans and they have no idea they will soon have some Bling to show off.

Chicks receive their New Jewelry when between 21-25 days old…at this time their legs/feet are adult size.

When banding day comes and the access door to the roof is opened it doesn’t take long for Pip and Ella too become defensive. First we will hear the kak, kak, kak, kak then the Mach Speed passes begin.

Osprey Departure

When the Urban Resident Osprey returned it didn’t take long for them to begin adding more sticks/branches to the existing nest. Trip after trip…one branch at a time.
The nest now large enough that while incubating Mrs. Osprey is completely out of sight.

As well with the summer place now opened for another year…there will be even more Osprey sites to check.

Think it’s safe to say I’ll get my “Osprey Fix” for the summer.
