Gray Owl Search Put on Hold

The endless search for Great Grays has been a disappointment this year. Now that we are nearing the middle of March the owls will soon setting up territories and then the matting process.

After many miles and hours logged coming home with no rewards has become frustrating…the same goes for other photographer friends.

It is what it is and Mother Nature isn’t always cooperative…there will be next year.

Ready for Take Off

This year there has been decent numbers of Snowy Owls kicking around. On occasion your able to see 2-3 while parked along the roadway.
Not all have been approachable and it’s always a challenge on just how to approach them…what works for one my not work for another.

Often they are off and flying before your able to get into range and I refer to these as “Birders Delights”
I do have my thoughts on possible reason for these “Spooky Owls”

Fun Day With Little Brown Owls

Not knowing what to expect or how the day would turn out on my first opportunity for Burrowing Owls last August.
Only knowing that these owls are very small and brown in color…to arrive at a cow pasture covered in dry grass seemed like mission impossible.

After a long period of time the first owl was spotted and then I had some idea what to look for. It was the big yellow eyes that gave them away as the rest of the body blended well into the dry grass in the pasture.
