Hawk Owl doing what Hawk Owls do when actively on the hunt. Amazing to witness just how they are able to do a mid-air stall…staying in one spot by doing some rapid flapping while focused on a possible meal in the snow below.
If prey has been detected they will simply drop like a stone to the ground below…something I find fascinating to watch if you happen across and active owl.

Owl on a Stick
It was another one of those…”forget about the job jar” days.
First trip out-n-about in search of Great Grays and can say I seen one…unfortunately no photos.
The day wasn’t a total washout as I did come across a Northern Hawk Owl who was actively going about its endless search for a meal.
Great Gray on the Wing
Reflecting back to a trip taken this past winter in search of Great Gray Owls. Though it appears to be a warm sunny day it was in fact -25c but no wind…it was warm enough that no gloves would be required.
With an active owl located it turned out to be a great opportunity for flight captures as it hunted the roadside for a meal.
