With all things Christmas now over it’s time to hit the back roads in search of the Great White Owls from the North. With good numbers earlier in the season and recent reports it may be a decent year for them…unlike the last couple years.
Many of these less traveled roads may be a challenge after the recent dump of snow. That’s why the 4×4 trucks were invented…but still common sense is required.

Forecast looked positive and it was time to giddy up and go on the search for Snowy Owls. The last couple of years has been disappointing but perhaps this year there’s been a turnaround for whatever reason.
With impressive numbers of owls being spotted…not all wished to be photographed as some were very Spooky ( flew off without any opportunity ) and some merely Birders Delight ( needing binoculars to confirm )
Some along the roadside while others preferred poles.
Will they all stay in the area…time will tell but suspect some to move on.

You take what Mother Nature Provides.

The good thing about photographing Snowy Owls they are less likely to be obscured by “Junk”…meaning branches, twigs or grass.
If trying to focus on something like a Great Gray in the bush the camera may first attempt to focus on branches or twigs in the foreground…which can be a bit frustrating but easily overcome.
Well…No Junk to deal with in this situation as the Snowy takes flight into the Wild Blue Yonder.
