Off the Beaten Path

During my last Eagle Run I opted to try a road less traveled that appeared to go who knows where. These bush trails tend to be a one way in and one way out…hopefully with a place to be able to turn around.
Turned out there was and on the trip back out found a cooperative Ruffed Grouse (female) which are for the most part easily spooked.

These are woodland birds and not something you’ll find within the city.

Along the Roadway

Ruffed-Grouse are commonly seen along the roadways foraging for food in Hecla as well as other forest areas. As long as you don’t attempt to leave the vehicle these birds are very photogenic for the most part.
