You just never know when or where you may stumble across something interesting…just sayin !
Having a Pileated Woodpecker (male) come in and perch on a low branch free limb does happen from time to time.

Morning visit to watch for some feeding at the Pileated tree. Didn’t take long before the young female was yakking and Dad showed up.
This particular morning the female wasn’t to be seen as Dad seemed to have everything under control…guess she was off filling up on grubs/ants at an old stump somewhere ?
In all the years this had been a “First” for me…this being a Pileated nest. The adults simply come and go with both feeding the youngster.
Would have been nice to have more than one chick but it is what it is.
Often times both the male and female would be on the tree that provided plenty of action.
