The second year for the Pileated Woodpeckers to nest in the same snag along the riverbank. The location is ideal for morning visits as far as shooting conditions go.
This year they produced three young…still find it hard to believe there was enough room in the cavity for that many given they are roughly the size of a crow.
Will they return next year for a third season…here again another wait and see scenario.

Someone’s Making Allot of Racket
Once again this year the Pileated Woodpeckers set-up in the same old snag. Only difference would be they moved up in the world and used another cavity.
Perhaps a better view or perhaps a larger cavity as they produced three young this year.
Noise in the Park
Early morning visit to the park this summer to check the Pileated Woodpecker nest site.
On arrival all was quiet for a short period of time…then the distinctive Wuck, Wuck, Wuck, Wuck of a juvenile begging for food could be heard.
