First Chick Banded

Friday July 6th and we had our ” 1st.” chick banding, a male and yet to be named.

Ty and the new female Ella ( Brandon 2015) had 4 eggs with only one egg hatching. The other three eggs weren’t viable and had been pulled from the nest.

He definitely had an attitude which may be a good thing…don’t know what he thinks of his bling

He reminds me of a little Sumo Wrestler.

Radisson Hotel…Peregrine Up-Date

Year after year Princess has returned to stake claim to her territory at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Winnipeg. For the last few years the question has always remained…will she return ?
She is no longer a spring chicken and it was a delight to see she returned again for another season.

Princess (2002 Minneapolis) is back for her 15th. season at the Radisson… To date she has had 4 mates, laid 48 eggs & raised 42 chicks.

Unfortunately for all the Peregrine Phanatics they Princess & Pip have taken the year off with no eggs laid. Everyone misses tuning into the Live Cam…starting with a glimpse of the little white fluff balls, the feedings and then the wingersizing before fledge day.

I for one will miss all the action the birds provided at banding time…Princess still made her presence known when we did visit the rooftop

High Tec Bird

Peregrine Falcons have gone “High Tec” in Winnipeg…this bird is carrying some extra baggage. We have a pretty good idea who it is (Spencer – Brandon Hatch 2013) but still needs to be confirmed by a band number.
Brandon hatch 2013 was part of a transmitter program to track their migration/movement.
Spencer was banded as a male and turns out he is a she…appears we made a mistake, hard to tell at 25 days old.
Hopefully will be able to get a positive ID soon ?
