Morning Viewing

Perhaps a bit later than past years…finally a morning viewing of the Osprey Chicks.
This may very well had something to do with the size of nest since the adults keep adding branches. The nest now has become quite deep.
Another thought…we did have a late spring and perhaps arrived back later than other years.

They young will soon be up on the edge of the nest madly flapping their wings preparing to fledge. Once they do fledge they do return to the nest…since this is where the adults bring the food.

The pre-fledge flapping is the most exciting time to watch the youngsters…just sayin !

Someone in the area of this Osprey nest site may very well be missing a Koi or large Gold Fish from their back yard pond…or perhaps from one of the many large ponds in the area.
Since Osprey are fish eaters I’m sure it must have been easily spotted from overhead.

The meal would be intended for the youngsters…but Dad did do a taste test before he delivered the meal. Shouldn’t be long before chicks will be visiable.

With Options Available

As of the May Long Week-end…I’ve options with our summer place now opened up.
Being an early riser my routine is to make coffee, grab a travel mug and head out to check the haunts around the Gimli area.

First morning out and it’s nice to see a pair of Osprey have returned…unlike last year with no nesting birds at the sites I visit.
Safe to say that I’ll get my Osprey Fix this year…since there’s now options both in town and at the lake.
