Never Forgot the First One

The saying goes…”You’ll Never Forget the First One”.

Strange how the mind works…I have problems remembering names, dates and where I need to be so that’s why they invented the calendar to write things down.

But when it comes to owls/birds I have no problems remembering…I can still remember the exact location on Maple Creek Road on Jan 11th 2009 and my First Encounter with a Great Gray.

From that point on I was hooked and have now photographed many over the years.

So it’s true…”You Never Forget Your First”.

Perhaps One of Those Years

For the last while my focus has been on Snowy Owls. Only because there has been literally no sightings of Great Grays or Hawk Owls.

It may very well be one of those years were locating them will be difficult,

With some recent heavier snowfalls this may be what is required to bring them out along the roadways.

There is plenty of time yet but it’s time to switch up the game plan and search for Great Grays.

Looking Forward to Winter

Over the years I have logged many kms/miles and put in countless hours in search of the Winter Owls…some day’s returning home with little to no rewards for the time spent.

Then there are times when Mother Nature cooperates and everything falls into place and stops you dead in your tracks.

It’s still much to early to be searching for the Ghost of the Forest but hopefully this year will be a good one.

Funny how I can’t remember names or dates but able remember locations of were a photo was taken.

Fingers crossed that it will be a good owling season…time will tell.
