Common Urban Bird

Cooper’s Hawks are frequently seen along residential streets and in many of the parks. They can be mistaken for a Sharp-shinned Hawk which is a smaller bird and has skinny legs as well as a squared off tail…whereas the Cooper’s have thicker legs and a longer rounded tail. Size wise the Cooper’s are similar to a Crow.

Juveniles after fledging seem to enjoy birdbaths and water sprinkles for some reason…perhaps the water is simply a way to cool down on a hot summer day.

There’s always some last minute camera work required and no sooner had we stepped out on to the roof…that familiar kak, kak, kak, kak,kak could be heard.
Both birds up and flying. Just letting us know that…yes we are trespassing on their territory.

Everything is progressing well and expect hatching to begin just after the May Long Week-end.

Intruder Attempts to Land

Previously at the Osprey nest site with the resident female defending the site from an intruder who made multiple passes. This was more than a pass with the intruder attempted to land in the nest…which didn’t go over well.

The resident pair were not in the mood for any visitor. The Old Saying holds true…Twos company, Threes a crowd.
