Eagle Trip up Lake Winnipeg

As previously mentioned in the last communication…keeping an eye on the weather was important. For those of you who don’t live in Winnipeg/Manitoba…we’ve been hit with I think both a Colorado Low & a Alberta Clipper at the same time over the last 24 hours.
We now have Winter Wonderland here…welcome to Winterpeg.

Anyway…Tuesday had been the Eagle Trip North…with ideal conditions.

Frist Eagle encounter was a few kilometers North of Gimli. Eagles are scavengers by nature…finding two along with Crows and Ravens picking over some recent road kill along the highway isn’t uncommon.
Perhaps this was a sign of good things to come as we traveled farther North up to Lake Winnipeg.

I think with this snowfall the window is now closed for any more trips North for Eagles…just sayin !

Keeping an Eye on the Forecast

Plans for a Fall Eagle Trip now in the works…keeping an eye on the forecast is the important part of the trip.
Conditions can change quickly the farther North you travel up along Lake Winnipeg.

I had the opportunity to witness one of the Lake Winnipeg snow squalls in 2020 that produced near White Out conditions. Didn’t seem to bother the Eagles…but I was certainly glad I had 4-wheel drive.

That’s when I pulled the plug and decided perhaps the best option would be to head South and home.
Twenty-five kilometers South of the White Out I was seeing the sunshine, blue skies and dry roads…definitely one of the strangest days ever.

Here’s hoping for some sunshine up North…time will tell.
