Perched on a Limb

My routine at the summer place in Gimli begins with an early morning pot of coffee…while most folks are still sound asleep.
With a full travel mug in hand I head out to check the usual haunts…never knowing what I may come across.

Pleasant surprise to come upon a Bald Eagle perched in a tree along the shores of Lake Winnipeg. He/she was perhaps there in search of a meal.
Bald Eagles primary food source consists mainly of fish and mammals…both alive and as carrion.

One just never knows what will be found when it comes to Mother Nature and what she has to offer.

Cheers !

Gravel Road Encounter

While out-n-about in search of other Raptors I stumbled upon what I later found out were a pair of Marbled Godwits.
Their long legs and bills certainly indicate shorebirds in my mind…would only have expected to see them next to a shallow pond or mud flats in search of food.

From what I now understand they can also be found around hay fields and grasslands where they nest.

The field and gravel road action most likely would have been a mating display.

It’s always interesting to stumble upon and learn something new.

Sure Sign of Summer

If anyone has driven down a country road you may very well have heard or seen a Meadow Lark (Robin like in size)
Commonly seen perched on a fence posts or wire…singing it’s heart out.

They can be found all across the Prairies…living in open grasslands, farm fields and pastures.
Meadow Larks are ground nesters feeding on seeds and insects like many other birds.

Their songs are always uplifting and a sure Sign of Summer.
