Territories Now Sorted Out

Winnipeg Peregrines have now sorted out their territories without any major disputes that we are aware of. Hart and his mate Esme now back at the West Wpg site and Pip and Ella have settled into the Radisson.
There seems to have been a slow return of birds this year with only ten/ five pairs that have been confirmed so far…I believe this could all be weather related and when conditions improve may have more returning birds.

Just prior to our Mid-April Storm that has blanketed Manitoba we re-introduced ourselves to Pip & Ella at the Radisson for some last minute nest box and camera cleaning.
As per usual it didn’t take the pair long to greet us…we were the ones trespassing on their territory.

Cheers !

Another Peregrine Season begins…Hart once again being the “First” bird to return on March 17th with Esme is mate from 2021 on the 21st.
They both seemed very much at home at the Radisson Hotel site even though they nested at a different site last year. They enjoyed a short stay at the Radisson until Pip the resident male from the Radisson showed up March 28th.

The birds will now sort out just who will mate with who and at what site.

The pair…Wingo Starr & April have also returned to Brandon and it’s unclear where they intend to nest.

Well the Peregrine Saga begins for another Season….stay tuned.

Cheers !
Dennis

Princess the Radisson Matriarch 2002-2022
She was hatched in Minneapolis Minnesota in 2002 and ended up in Winnipeg in 2004
My first encounter with her was in 2006 and a force to be reckoned with.

She had been the resident female at the Radisson since 2004. During that time she had 4 different mates…Trey (2004-2009) Ivy (2010-2013) Smiley (2014-2016)
Pip (2017-2018) and raised a whack of kids.

When Princess didn’t return in 2019 and we suspected the worse.
Then total shock when Wildlife Haven contacted the Project in July 2021…she was rehabbed and more than ready to be released.

We released her and off she flew to parts unknown.

Then only to be again found at the end of November in Winnipeg and back to Wild Life Haven…this time it wasn’t possible to rehab her and her quality of life needed to be considered.

She won’t be forgotten…as her children and grandchildren are found across the prairies and the states.

Farwell Princess.
