Great Gray on the Move

Enough dreaming of things to come this summer…back to what’s currently being focused on.

One of life’s little pleasures is being able to share with others the action that I come across while out-n-about on a adventure.

Not always action packed and sometimes it seems more like watching paint dry.

I remember hearing this quote years ago and it’s something to live by for me…”Nature is like a book, those who do not explore read only but one page”

Look I Can Fly

Fast forward and thoughts of reopening the summer place and the return of the Osprey is like having Christmas all over.

Always a fun time when the juveniles realize that they can fly. This only comes after much time is spent flapping and jumping within the nest…then one day they are airborne. Usually needing to make a couple passes by the nest before attempting their first landing…which can appear to look awkward.

Records show it’s been some time since I’ve traveled any back roads in search of Snowy Owls. All due to the fact that there had been Great Gray activity combined with poor weather conditions.

Snowy numbers had been good early in the season with 8-12 sightings per trip…with some owls tending to be photographic while others very easily spooked.

Reports have indicated that the number of sightings has dropped off which is normal.

Recent snow, winds, doom and gloom has put owling on hold…this morning we are sitting at a balmy -10c and a decent forecast.

I think it’s about time for a little out-n-about trip…just sayin.
