Summer is Gone…enjoy the Fall

Where did the summer go ?

With Fall approaching the Summer Place is now closed up for the Winter. This also included the Wren House.
If you happen to have small bird houses in your yard…it’s always a good idea to do a fall clean-up on them.

Hopefully your bird houses have a removal backdoor for this task to be easily done.

Removing all the nest material from inside is a good idea…small birds like to start fresh come next Spring.
It also helps in eliminating bird parasites.

Looking forward to the Wrens returning next spring…for now I’ll enjoy all the smells and colors of Fall.

Summer Memories

As the seasons change so do the subjects. It’s a sure sign that Autumn is coming when…you begin to hear and see Geese flying overhead in formation.
Of course there are already trees beginning to show Fall colors.

Reflecting back…the opportunity to take a visitor from Sweden on one of my Out-n-About Trips.
He was easy to please…his Wish List for one of the days consisted of Tim’s coffee, White Pelicans and a Hotdog.

Off we went to Lockport for Pelicans and Hotdogs. Yes, the Pelicans even performed some precision flying.

Always nice to reflect back on some Summer Memories.

Killdeer Fun Fact

I can recall many years ago when I was a young lad attempting to catch Killdeer…seemed simple enough since it appeared to be hurt. As hard as I tried they always stayed a few steps ahead of me.
Later in life I found out that the Killdeer is the Master at using the “Broken Wing” act…this is done to lure predators away from the nest or young.

Killdeer can be found along beaches, mudflats and fields…as well as gravel driveways and parking lots.
They have the habit of running a few steps then stopping as they search of insects and worms.

So remember…if you come across a Killdeer don’t be fooled by its “Broken Wing Charade”.
