Well not sure who was more surprised…me or the owl ?
Not really, the owl would have seen me long before I seen him. The fact that he didn’t just fly off was somewhat of an indication that a nest site may be close by.
Appears I stumbled into a pair of Great Horned Owls.
Will have to see just how this unfolds in the days to come ?
Great Horned Owls can be found in parks and woods lots throughout the city. Since they aren’t nest builders they rely on using old crow’s nest which are abundant. You would expect to find them in quiet surroundings.
Something that is becoming more apparent… pairs are nesting in a high traffic residential areas on private property.
Just shows you how they have adapted to their surroundings and tolerate human traffic.
So all good things must come to an end…as the seasons change so do the subjects.
It’s been a decent year for Snowy Owls but now time to focus on other returning birds.
Well it’s goodbye to the Great White Owls from the Tundra.
