The End is Near

Now into to March as we near the end of opportunity’s to locate Great Grays…my rule of thumb being March 15th.
They then begin to move back into the forests and the mating season will begin.
Not a great year as far as numbers go and seemed to be very hit and miss on locating…more miss than hit for me sad to say.
You take the hand that your dealt from Mother Nature and make the best of it.

Stare Down with a Snowy

Eyes just dropped in since it’s been awhile since I’ve seen Dennis and thought something may have happened to him ?
Then realized that it was probably do to the recent high winds and snow that had closed many of the back roads where I like to hang out.
It was nice to recognize that black truck over the week-end…given the fact I was perched along a closed section of road I decided to move to perch he had access too.
We had a long stare down only because I felt sorry for him…then I got bored and left.
Hopefully he’ll return before I head back to the Tundra.

The Hunt Continues

With the temp sitting at -32c and -41c with the wind chill had hard to imagine how the Great Gray can even survive in these extreme conditions…but they do.
This particular owl was locked in and focused on a possible meal beneath the deep snow….this brought to you by the guy who seems to pick the coldest days to be out-n-about searching for owls.
