Interesting Neighbors

As of late I’ve noticed that a pair of Merlin’s are expressing great interest in a pine tree close to me and doing all the right things. Not being nest builders they tend to use abandoned Crow’s nest from the previous year.
Females are dark brown and larger than the gray-blue males and about half the size of a Peregrine.
The prolonged kee, kee, kee, kee calling is unmistakable…some may find the sounds annoying along with the fact that their main diet consists of small birds.
Hopefully they won’t be chased off by Crows as I’m looking forward to the possibility they may nest.
Time will tell.

It’s unclear to me just how I’ve missed noticing a Bald Eagles nest near a road I frequently travel…by the size and location I should have seen this nest long before.
Hopefully this Eagles mate will return and they’ll use that Big Old Nest…time will tell.

Looking Forward to Their Return.

Perhaps it’s me but winter seems to be dragging on…I’m so looking forward to returning Osprey.
Though it will be some time yet…since they eat fish and would require the ponds and rivers to have open water and free of ice.
So for now I will count the days and the snow to be gone…waiting for the rivers to flow.
