Another Day Another Subject

While out searching back country roads for Snowy Owls and came across a different subject. Crow like in size or slightly larger Rough-legged Hawks are more likely to be seen at this time of year as they nest in the Artic and migrate South in late fall and winter.

They have a dark lower body patch along with a dark patch at the elbow on the underside of the wings. If you notice their legs are covered in feathers unlike other raptures and would be how they got their name.

Didn’t find any owls down that road but was rewarded with this hawk.

Back with Eagles

Once again returning to the secluded clearing in the bush where I had found Eagles collecting in the fall.
Sitting at the start of the bush trail and pondering different ideas on just how to approach them while watch them through the bush.
It soon became apparent that some of the Eagles were using the trail clearing as a flight path.
Then the light bulb went on…it only made sense to sit and wait rather than me go to them.
Well realizing my approach had been wrong on the previous two trips…I made a mental note on that morning for next year’s trips.

Cheers !
Dennis

As of now I’ve done a couple out-n-about trips hoping to find any early Winter Owl arrivals…unfortunately I haven’t been rewarded and it would be very early for them anyway.
One of these days the camera will get a workout.
Until then it’s Osprey & Eagles to share.
