The only owl that nests under ground perhaps hence their name ? They will use prairie dog burrows or man made tunnels\/nest sites as is the case in this protected area.<br \/>\nTheir distinguishing traits are long legs and big yellow eyes&#8230;most often seen next to the borrow or perched on low posts.<\/p>\n<p>Definitely a fun little critter to photograph.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Burrowing Owl is one of the smaller owls and about the size of a Robin.
